AGYAAKU KYEI

MSW, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey and Ohio. I have extensive experience working with socially and culturally diverse populations in various schools, hospitals, and outpatient settings with a focus on, but not limited to, trauma, psychotherapy, advocacy, and crisis intervention.

As a mental health professional and Ghanaian immigrant, I can attest to the challenges involved in navigating two cultures.  As a result of my lived experiences, I have witnessed the struggle between the demands of assimilating to a new society and the cultural expectations of my native country. The weight of cultural identity, family expectations, and the unfamiliar dynamics of seeking mental health support can create barriers to well-being.  Although many Ghanaian immigrants grew up in societies that did not encourage discussing mental health, we find ourselves in settings where receiving mental health care can be essential to living life fully.

My goal is to provide clinicians with the cultural intervention tools to help individuals of Ghanaian background bridge both worlds and navigate their experiences
